This took me about 12 hours to finish all together...
I tried a new shading technique I found in a tutorial, I'm not sure if it came out okay... I tried to get the definition down and It took me over 50 Layers to get it done! >8B I spent about 2 hours on the stupid face -_-;;; I added my name to it but I DID NOT DRAW THIS... I found the lineart in the *color-me-club's Gallery. I wanted to color something and this is what I did. The background was a stock photo that I've use in one of my other photo manipulations.

Well, it probably could use a little more volume, but what I like is that you kinda gave it texture. And yes, the gems are shiny =)

Well... this might sound odd, but you could try playing around with cell shading... that is, instead of trying to inmediately capture multiple shade/light tones, just keep it down to two or three and make sure there's a clear contrast between them, and then work out where one ends and the other begins. I think stuff like that helps one to 'see' the sructure of what you're painting.
